Doug's Story

Doug Chandler’s love of art began early—around age four—when his first “canvas” happened to be his mom’s soap boxes! From that moment on, he was hooked. Doug spent his childhood sketching everything that sparked his imagination, from famous bodybuilders and classic cars to aliens and creatures of all kinds—simply for the pure joy of creating.

His passion continued to grow, and his very first painting went on to win his high school art show, a moment that confirmed art would always be part of his life.

In 1975, when Jaws hit theaters, Doug discovered another lifelong fascination: sharks. His signature electric shark painting was inspired by a favorite childhood t-shirt iron-on, blending nostalgia with his vibrant artistic style.

Today, fueled by his love of the Lord and the cherished memories of his youth, Doug creates paintings and wearable art that celebrate the beauty and wonder of God’s creatures. Through his work, he hopes to bring joy, inspiration, and a smile to everyone who experiences it.

Our Mission

Doug is co-founder and premier artist for Douglas Chandler Gallery alongside the love of his life, Dominique, who inspires his creativity and serves as both his muse and his reason for joy as he continues creating and sharing his art with the world.

She runs the business so Doug can focus on being creative. They juggle a lot between family and careers, but their faith and strong belief in each other fuel them to honor the Lord and keep reaching for success.

A Loving Tribute

Doug lovingly dedicates part of his artistic journey to his mom, whose creative spirit helped shape his own. She was an artistic soul with a wonderfully vibrant personality, always encouraging imagination and self-expression.

His journey in life was also deeply shaped by the love and encouragement of his dad. Doug's father was generous, thoughtful, kind, and believed in Doug. His love of animals was a huge influence on his son and helped shape his artwork.

Doug loved them both very much and tributes his creative vision to them both.
